What Type of Trade Show Exhibits are Right for You?

No matter what industry your company is in, attending trade shows is a great way to build brand awareness and promote the business. It’s one of the few opportunities to target a large crowd of influencers, investors and consumers in the same space, to demonstrate why your products and services stand out in the market.

Don’t Overlook the Importance of Your Display

If you’ve ever been to a trade show, you know that the booth display matters. Some companies opt for huge and lavish exhibits, while others choose a smaller booth with just the basics. At some of the major international events, having the best exhibit has become a serious competition between companies.

Ultimately, trade shows are a battle of foot traffic, so having the right exhibit for your needs is essential. Even if you have the coolest new product on display, your booth is what will draw people in and keep them there. So, how do you know which type of trade show exhibit is right for your business?

How to Determine the Right Exhibit for Your Business

If your company is new to the trade show world, you might not know that there are actually many different types of displays that are commonly used at events. Each one has their pros and cons related to price, ease of set up, customization options, and so on. In this article, we’ll look at five of the most popular exhibit displays.

A custom display is the most popular option for a trade show booth. The display is built entirely from scratch using the precise width, height, and depth specifications of the booth space. Because the display is custom made, you have endless options for using branding, colors, logos and other eye-catching elements. Custom displays can also be wired and fitted with LCD screens, charging stations and other AV components without needing to run multiple outlets.

The custom display is the priciest option on our list. However, investing in a custom booth can be a good choice if your company is announcing a major new product, or if your main goal is to stand out among your competitors on the show floor. Custom displays are usually the most visually compelling, so you can expect to get a high volume of traffic.

Custom Modular

A custom modular exhibit is similar to a custom display, but is generally less expensive because it can be repurposed for different spaces. This type of display has interchangeable components, such as counters, walls, pedestals, and display cases, and is usually made of a lighter material like aluminum. They’re easy to setup and break down and don’t require expert builders like some traditional custom builds do.

For companies that want a high-quality, customized booth for a more affordable price, a custom modular display is a great option. It’s also beneficial for companies that attend trade shows frequently, or that travel to shows around the country. Because each component of a custom modular display breaks down easily, it’s not as expensive to ship or transport.

A pre-owned booth display is exactly what it sounds like—you’re purchasing an exhibit that was once owned by another company. Many professional trade show display companies sell high-quality, pre-owned exhibits that you can buy outright, or rent for one event. Although a pre-owned display can’t be customized exactly to your specifications, you can usually find a variety of displays with different sizes, designs, features and prices to fit your company’s needs.

If you decide to attend a trade show last minute and don’t have the time or money for a new booth display, consider buying or renting a pre-owned exhibit. After you find one you like, all you’ll have to do is modify the graphics and structure the booth to fit your specific space.

Many companies love portable displays because they’re fast and easy to set up and break down. Portable displays usually come with attachable panels that can be assembled in different structural styles, depending on the size constraints of your booth space. Even though portable displays don’t always have the same “wow factor” of a custom exhibit, they do come with a variety of accessories that enhance the display, and can be used interchangeably.

Another great feature of portable displays is their weight—they are incredibly light, which makes them easy to transport between shows. There’s minimal labor needed to install and take down a portable display, which makes it a great option for companies that travel to smaller (and shorter) regional shows.

The last option for a tradeshow exhibit is a rental booth. This is the most cost-effective option, and it is ideal for last minute trade shows or for companies that don’t have much budget to put into their booth. Renting a booth is also a good option for companies that are interested in purchasing a custom booth eventually but want to test out different booth styles before committing.

To rent a booth, you’ll work with a company that specializes in rentals, and submit your design needs, branding, size configurations, and budget. They’ll search their inventory for a rental booth that meets your specifications and work with you to add further customizations and graphics. Most rental companies will also include installation and breakdown of the booth at the trade show as part of their service.

The Bottom Line

Trade shows are a great opportunity for companies to build buzz, get new customers and make a name for themselves in their industry. And for people on the fence, research proves the value of trade shows. Data shows that over 80% of trade show attendees have buying authority, and the average attendee spends more than eight hours viewing exhibits at a trade show.
